The Horton Hotel is located in downtown Boone on King Street, within walking distance of Appalachian State University. That makes it an especially convenient home base for parents helping a student move into campus housing.
On the first Friday of each month, downtown Boone hosts the First Friday Art Crawl along King Street. Galleries extend their hours, local musicians perform live on sidewalks, and visitors explore Boone's creative scene on foot.
Each April, Tweetsie Railroad opens for the season, welcoming families to Wild West train rides, live shows, and seasonal events in the North Carolina mountains. Opening weekend is one of the most popular times to visit.
Each May, anglers gather for the annual Blowing Rock Trout Derby, hosted by The Speckled Trout Outfitters. This family-friendly fishing tournament draws visitors from across the Southeast and marks one of the High Country's most beloved spring traditions.
